We love our trees here in Oregon as much as we love our coffee. The vast sea of evergreens blanketing the western half of our region is ingrained deeply in our hearts. Oregon has endured a devastating wildfire season. The damage is painful, but our Pacific woods, like the people who inhabit them, are resilient. With the release of Pacific Woods, Black Rose is proud to support Keep Oregon Green as part of the collective recovery effort.
Pacific Woods is a unique variety grown and harvested by a collective of small producers at 1200 meters on the northwest tip of Sumatra. A wet-hull method, locally known as Giling Basaha, imparts notes of cedar and smoke. The resulting coffee is a welcoming combination of sweet raisin and earthy dark chocolate, a touch of smokiness, with full body and a smooth, creamy finish. A warm, lingering cedar note links this traditionally-processed coffee with aromas of the Pacific Northwest and the woods we dearly cherish.
Available in the 350g size only.
Tasting Notes: Raisin – Dark Chocolate – Sweet Tobacco – Cedar

The Revolution will be caffeinated!
Get energized and stand up for human rights with some damn good coffee from an Ethiopian woman-owned, 95% woman-operated farm in the East African land where coffee began!
Black Rose Coffee is proud to announce our first collaboration, with @Riotkitchen206! Riot Kitchen is a BIPOC, womxn-founded non-profit with the simple mission of providing healthy food to anyone in need. What began within the Capitol Hill Organized Protest in Seattle has branched out to Portland, and beyond to support social justice protesters.
For every $20 bag of Riot Blend: $10 goes to support Riot Kitchen; $7 goes to pay the farmers in Ethiopia (half for your beans and half to buy coffee that Riot Kitchen serves for anyone in need); and $3 covers our operating costs.
Our Riot Blend is the same Ethiopian green bean roasted in two distinct ways. A medium roast brings out the milk chocolate notes while a French roast highlights the bean’s natural citrus and cane sugar flavors. Each roast would be outstanding on its own, but when they work together, it’s unstoppable! No matter how ya’ roast it, all coffees are beans.
Available in the 350g size only.
Tasting Notes: Citrus – Cane Sugar – Jasmine
The backbone of Black Rose’s menu and the central component to our Black Rose Blend, our Guatemala San Vicente Pacaya is assertive as you want an espresso roast to be. If the thought of espresso evokes charred bitterness, or the fact that this bean grows in the shadow of a volcano makes you think it’ll taste like charred lava, we understand, and we’ve got your back. Black Rose Guatemala is chocolatey and smooth, with notes of roasted almonds and cinnamon. Its is the perfect cup of coffee on a cool morning, a cold brew pick-me-up in the middle of the day, or an air freshener for wherever you leave it!
Tasting Notes: Dark Chocolate – Caramel – Almond – Cinnamon
A perfect day in Costa Rica, one would say, can be spent soaking your cares away in the mineral hot springs of the Terrazú volcano. With a cup of locally-grown coffee in-hand, of course. But, if you can’t make the trip, allow Black Rose to bring you right there!
Grown at an altitude of over 1200 meters, ripe Caturra and Catuai coffee cherries are harvested by hand, then delivered to the 1888-built Beneficio San Diego mill – the oldest-operating wet mill in Costa Rica. Using a patented process, beans are put into natural-parchment bags and fermented in pure volcanic mineral water. This creates a unique exchange, accelerating the removal of unwanted material and allowing for the absorption of volcanic minerals.
Look for hints of cocoa, stonefruit, currant, and an extra hint of peppery zest from the mineral water. Each sip of this phenomenally-balanced, nutty and smooth coffee is an ode to Pura Vida.
Tasting Notes: Cocoa – Nutty – Stonefruit

Bright, bold, and a little sweet, Clemmy’s Decaf is the cup of coffee decaf drinkers deserve. These beans are grown in a biological Conservation Corridor between the National Park of Tatamá and Serrania de los Paraguas, the Umbrella Mountain Range. Although umbrellas aren’t allowed in Portland, we imported these beans to keep you warm on a rainy day.
After harvest, the beans are washed with a “sugarcane process” using an organic compound found in locally-grown sugarcane, which leaves more flavor in the bean than a conventional decaffeinating wash. Your cup has notes of cherry and caramel, with bright citrus, and just a little sugarcane sweetness.
Drink it any time of day, or brew with any other Black Rose bean for a delightful half-caff blend. Or fool your friends into thinking they’re drinking “regular” coffee. Death before decaf? Not here. We offer life with great coffee.
Tasting Notes: Cherry – Caramel – Citrus – Cane Sugar
Like a diamond in the rough, beauty can often be found in unexpected places. This delicious roast, like the story of coffee itself, is the product of improbable human ingenuity in the face of all odds.
Cerrado de Minas is among the most ecologically-diverse regions on Earth. Its ideal combination of altitude, weather, and sunlight produce coffee that is complex, chocolatey, and aromatic.
After harvest, the coffee cherries are sun-dried – allowing for natural sugars to remain – then rested in wood boxes for upwards of 30 days. The result is a perfect flavor combination of dried fruit, nuts, chocolate, and cereal. A gem of a coffee, here to brighten your day when you need it most!
While coffee has been cultivated in Brazil since the early 18th century, these nearly half-million prime acres remained unidentified until the mid-1970’s. Amid a crisis which nearly brought down the Brazilian coffee industry, farmers turned attention to an overlooked and underdeveloped plateau in the Northwest of the state of Minas Gerais. With hard work and local knowledge, Cerrado de Minas developed into a prominent cooperative of coffee farmers, and the rest is history.
Tasting Notes: Milk Chocolate – Peanut Butter – Raisin – Granola
Our flagship blend is a perfectly balanced blend of three coffees that I love. Sweet, smoky, nutty and just the right amount of bitter, Black Rose Blend is adaptable to just about any way you want it. Drink it black (go on, give it a try!) or stir in some sugar, your favorite creamer, coconut milk, old-fashioned 2%, or maybe some whiskey.
Tasting Notes: Roasted Nuts – Dark Chocolate – Toasted Marshmallow
Indonesia Gayo Highlands “Big Bean”
Sweet and smoky (but not smoked!), hints of cinnamon and other herbs round out the palate of this unique roast. Enjoy an evocative, untranslatable aroma and flavor that is reminiscent of the smell of your grandparents’ pipe tobacco that fills the air as it brews.
Grown by a self-taught coffee-grower in Indonesia, these beans have been roasted to highlight a few of my favorite flavors in an unexpectedly enticing coffee profile. Makes a fantastic half caff too!
Tasting Notes: Sweet Herbs – Cinnamon – Tobacco
